Janelle Melohn is a nationally recognized champion for community-based trauma-informed care, survivor advocacy, and equity-driven public policy. She currently serves as Senior Director of the National Alliance of Trauma Recovery Centers (NATRC) at the University of California, San Francisco, where she leads a national network of 55 member Trauma Recovery Centers across 15 states. Her work focuses on expanding access to healing services for survivors of violent crime, especially in communities most impacted by systemic inequity. Janelle leads efforts to ensure fidelity to the UCSF TRC model, build sustainable technical assistance infrastructure, and strengthen partnerships with federal, state, and local governments to replicate effective trauma-informed practices nationwide.

With nearly two decades of experience across local, state, and federal systems, Janelle brings deep expertise in culturally specific program development, public safety grant administration, and systems-level reform. She previously served as a Senior Policy Advisor at the U.S. Department of Justice, led a national training and technical assistance center supporting VOCA state administrators, and spent a decade directing the Crime Victim Assistance Division at the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. There, she oversaw a $50 million annual budget, modernized the state’s Crime Victim Compensation Program, and led major equity initiatives that shifted funding to culturally specific organizations and survivor-driven solutions. Known for her strategic vision, collaborative leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice, Janelle is a frequent speaker and trusted partner in advancing trauma-responsive, equity-centered systems of care.
