Dushoun “Bigga” Almond is a dedicated community leader and violence prevention advocate whose work has helped shape safer neighborhoods throughout Brownsville and Ocean Hill. Driven by a deep commitment to his community, he has spent years creating opportunities for peace, healing, and positive change.

In 2015, Bigga became a co-founding member of BIVO (Brownsville In Violence Out), an anti-gun violence initiative through CAMBA. Beginning as a part-time Violence Interrupter, he worked directly within the community to mediate conflicts, prevent retaliatory violence, and connect individuals with critical support services. His dedication and leadership quickly established him as a trusted voice and respected figure in violence prevention.

Building on that mission, Bigga became a co-founding member of the Brownsville Safety Alliance in 2021, further strengthening collaborative efforts to reduce violence and improve the quality of life for residents. Through partnerships with community organizations, local stakeholders, and residents, he has helped advance initiatives focused on public safety, outreach, and neighborhood empowerment.

In 2024, Bigga played a key role in expanding these life-saving efforts by opening the second BIVO site in Ocean Hill–Brownsville. As the site’s leader, he continues to oversee its daily operations, mentor outreach staff, and work tirelessly to interrupt cycles of violence while fostering hope, accountability, and lasting community transformation.

Through his unwavering commitment to service, Dushoun “Bigga” Almond has become a respected leader whose impact extends far beyond violence prevention. His work reflects a lifelong dedication to empowering others, strengthening communities, and creating a safer future for generations to come.
