Bea Hanson is the Director of the New York State Office of Victim Services. She was appointed in 2024 by Governor Kathy Hochul. Previously, Bea served as Senior Advisor to the New York City Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-based Violence and Principal Deputy Director of the federal Office on Violence Against Women during President Obama’s Administration, where she was responsible for leading the implementation of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) to prevent and respond to domestic and sexual violence in communities across the country. Bea has also served as Chief Program Officer for Safe Horizon and as the Director of Client Services at the New York City Anti-Violence Project. Bea earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Welfare from the City University in New York, a Master of Social Work degree from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
